Formation - 4-1-2-1-2

GK - Kasper Schmeichel ( An injury to Andreas Isaksson at the start of the 2007/08 gave Kasper the chance to show what he could do on the Premier League stage and he certainly took it - with four clean sheets in his first seven appearances for the Blues, and a penalty save at the Emirates Stadium. )

RB - Emmanual Eboue ( Perhaps the most attacking right-back in England right now. Emmanuel has electric pace and seems happy to raid down the flank at any opportunity. He amassed five Premiership assists in 2006/07 but, oddly, weighed in with only one goal — against Hamburg in the Champions League.)

CB - Jamie Carragher ( The ultimate one-club player, and with one of the biggest hearts in football, Jamie Carragher is Mr Liverpool. The vice-captain has been instrumental in the Reds' success over the last decade, during which he's made more than 500 appearances. One of the heroes of Istanbul, it's hard to imagine that famous comeback occurring without him. )

CB - John Terry ( As brave as they come and a superb reader of the game, sound technique and distribution make him more than just a defenders' defender. )

LB - Ashley Cole ( He was named in the all-star squad for the tournament. In total Cole has 52 caps for England. His athletic goal-line clearance against Ecuador was an enduring image of a low-key England campaign.)

DMF - Xabi Alonso ( Alonso swiftly developed into a defensive midfielder with an eye for a pass few of his contemporaries could spot.)

RMF - Shaun Wright Philips ( Originally a trainee at Nottingham Forest, doubts about his lack of inches (he now measures 5' 6") led to him switching to Manchester City where he made his professional football debut aged 18. )

LMF - Christiano Ronaldo ( Cristiano Ronaldo has just about exhausted all superlatives, except to say that having developed and matured from a young and inexperienced winger when he joined from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, he's now among the best and most dynamic attacking forces in the world.)

AMF - Steven Gerrard ( Once in a generation a player comes along to whom nothing seems impossible. Luckily, that man wears the number eight shirt at Anfield. Liverpool's inspirational captain is arguably the most complete footballer in the world. Power, pace, touch and a never-say-die attitude; Stevie G has it all, and rarely have these attributes been more apparent than when he skippered the Reds to 2005 Champions League glory in Istanbul.)

WF - Robin Van Persie ( Robin can make amends this season. Assuming greater responsibility in the wake of Thierry Henry's departure, the Dutchman was back to his best in pre-season, scoring the goals which won the Emirates Cup and the Amsterdam Tournament. One of European football's most exciting talents, Robin has excellent close control, a powerful left foot and the ability to change a game with one piece of magic. He's a dab hand from free kicks too. Now, with Henry gone, the stage is set for Robin to become Arsenal's new talisman.)

WF - Fernando Torres ( Signed for a club record fee of approximately £20 million in July 2007, El Nino was handed the shirt vacated by Anfield legend Robbie Fowler.
Undaunted, he soon became the first Red since Fowler in 1996-97 to break the 30-goal barrier and is already on his way to achieving Godlike status.Such was his prodigious talent he was named the best under-14 player in Europe following his performances in the 1998 Nike Cup.Torres became the youngest player in Atletico history upon making his debut in May 2001. He went on to bag 21 goals in 2003-04 after being named Vicente Calderon's youngest ever skipper at the age of 19.)

SPORTS SECTION

Holland 1 Denmark 1
A goal by Ruud van Nisterlooy gave Holland the lead as the orenje played their 2nd last warm up before the Euro 2008. however, a schoolboy error by Mathijisen handed the Denmark side an equalising goal. Bendtner took advantage of the mistake and set up Poulsen for the equaliser. Orenje coach van Basten however was satisfied with his team's performances and refuse to blame any individuals for the goal.

Transfer News

Tottenham's search for a new goalkeeper continues as Nice goalkeeping prodigy Hugo Lloris has rejected offers from the club to join fellow french club Lyon. Lloris will replace Coupet as the club's no. 1. Spurs will have to look for other alternatives in the form of Kameni of Espanyol. They have however signed a wonderkid in Bostock of Crystal Palace.

Man Utd's Sir Alex has shown interest in Micah Richards, the highest earning player with £45,000 a week in the blue half of Manchester. He is said to be willing to fork out £20 million for his services in defence. Pique has left Man Utd for Barcelona for a sum of about £8 million.

Arsenal are closing in on French trio Chantanome, Nasri and Coquelin. Aresene Wenger has shown keen interest in Nasri especially as they hope to get the signature of the "new Zidane" for an estimated fee of £11 million. They are however already on the verge of getting another youth to join them, in the form of Hatem Ben Arfa of Lyon. Ben Arfa is the french league1 Young Player of the Year. Two other midfield dynamo linked with Arsenal is Roma's Aquilani and Barca's Yaya Troure. Meanwhile, Hleb however looks set to leave the Gunners for either Barcelona, Real Madrid or Inter Milan.

Liverpool are set to sell Alonso, who arrived in 2004 from Real Sociedad. Two clubs are intrested in him, being Real Madrid and Juventus. The price tag set by Rafa Benitez is £16 million. Skipper Gerrard has expressed his feelings that Gareth Barry should play for Liverpool. The two has been paired up in the midfield during the England vs Us game recently and showed much chemistry and understanding.

My Views on transfer speculation: The quick and agile Kameni would be a good replacement for Robinson and Coupet is a tried and tested stronghold guardian as well. Coupet would be a good short-term alternative for clubs in search for goalkeepers.

Nasri is a playmaker from Marseile and the club is willing to let him go if they meet the demands. Nasri is most likely to set foot on The Emirates as Wenger has shown interest in him for some time. Coquelin is also one who is to set foot on The Emirates as the 17-year-old is part of Wenger's youth policy.

Madrid would most probably be able to get the signature of Alonso as he would most probably prefer to play for a club in his own country. Alonso could make a great pair with Sneidjer in the heart of midfield.

Martin O'neill would find it hard to persuade his skipper to stay at Villa Park as Barry, at 27, surely deserve to play Champions League football. Gerrard and him has shown good chemistry in midfield as the former assisted Gerrard for a goal in the game US.

Micah Richards would be a great defender to have in the team as the 20 year old has greatly impressed in his perfomances. He was part of the team that managed to the double against Man Utd this season. Fergie would like to have him paired up with either Rio or Vidic as he would be able to rest either for important games.
